A very beautiful ring from the 1920s-1930s. With a band made from 18ct gold, and quatrefoil shaped settings setting tipped with platinum. The centre of the ring has been millegrain bezel set with a square cut synthetic sapphire and four single cut natural diamonds.
Sapphire has been synthesized by man since the 1800s but the process became streamlined and the stones very popular in the early 1900s. It is not at all unusual to find antique and vintage jewellery featuring synthetic sapphire - they were very sought after.
In terms of chemical composition, this stone is identical to a sapphire that has been dug from the Earth. The main difference is this one was grown in weeks rather than over millions of years. Synthetic sapphires also tend to be very clear, with inclusions typically being gas bubbles and curved striations. This stone displays both under the loupe.
The Art Deco ring is in good condition and looks absolutely beautiful on the finger. It is supplied in our recycled kraft ring box along with our tailored gemstone care card. UK delivery is fast and free via Royal Mail.
