This is a beautiful Art Deco period ring: dainty and discreet. It's fashioned from 18ct gold and is ideal as both a stacking ring or a standalone ring, and would even make a lovely little engagement ring. The ring features a central square cut synthetic ruby, surrounded by Earth mined diamonds in a mixture of single and rose cuts.
Ruby has been synthesized by man since the 1800s but the process became streamlined and the stones very popular in the early 1900s. It is not at all unusual to find antique jewellery featuring synthetic ruby - they were very sought after at the time.
In terms of chemical composition, this stone is identical to a ruby that has been dug from the Earth. The main difference is this one was grown in weeks rather than over millions of years. Synthetic rubies also tend to be very clear, with inclusions typically being gas bubbles and curved striations. This stone displays both under the loupe.
This lovely little Art Deco era ring would make a fabulous addition to your jewellery box. It's supplied in our recycled kraft ring box with our tailored gemstone care card. UK delivery is fast and free via Royal Mail.
