Vintage 14ct Gold Large Freeform Opal Triplet Pendant Necklace
This is an adorable pendant, with a frame made from solid 14ct yellow gold and a show stopper of an opal triplet taking centre stage. An opal triplet is man's way of using the very fine slivers of opal that are found in Australian rocks, but are not stable enough to be worn as jewels on their own. The small slice of black opal is attached to a backing - usually ironstone - and then a clear dome is placed on top, usually colourless quartz. So there are 3 layers to this gemstone, and the centre layer is black opal.
The black opal used in this piece is mesmerizing, with an incredibly rich display of blues, green, reds and yellows. It's hard to stop looking at it! You can purchase the opal pendant to wear on your own chain, or without a our good quality, fine 9ct yellow gold trace chain. This is a brand new chain, and being a UK based shop it's hard for us to source new gold that is not either 9 or 18 carat. However, 9ct and 14ct pair together without issue and there is no difference noticeable to the eye. The pendant necklace is supplied in our recycled kraft jewellery box - not the vintage case shown which is one of our props.
