This is one of those rings that we just HAD to have. Featuring a fabulous fancy cut synthetic sapphire, flanked by two very small Earth mined diamonds at either side. The sapphire is a whopping 1.4cm x 1cm in size, and because of its fancy cut we can only give a very approximate carat weight of 7cts. The ring is in very good condition - some wear to band and the sapphire is slightly offset in the mount, but you'd need a keen eye to spot it.
Sapphire has been synthesized by man since the 1800s but the process became streamlined and the stones very popular in the early 1900s. It is not at all unusual to find antique and vintage jewellery featuring synthetic sapphire - they were very sought after. In terms of chemical composition, this stone is identical to a sapphire that has been dug from the Earth. The main difference is this one was grown in weeks rather than over millions of years. Synthetic sapphires also tend to be very clear, with inclusions typically being gas bubbles and curved striations. This stone displays both under the loupe.
