Vintage 18ct Gold Zircon & Diamond Three Stone Ring
A wonderful 1940s ring featuring a central emerald cut blue zircon stone, flanked at either side by two transitional cut diamonds. The band of this retro three stone ring is fashioned from 18ct yellow gold, and the stones are set in platinum. Zircons are Earth mined stones (not to be confused with man-made cubic zirconia) that have a fabulous lustre and shine wonderfully. They are brittle, and you will notice the facet edges of this stone are abraded. That is to be expected on a ring of this age, and though it looks quite dramatic in the close up photos, to the eye it's not overly noticeable.
You will also notice (when wearing the ring) that the claws around the zircon are not overly tight. Again this is to be expected - the stone is securely set, just not tight to avoid damaging the stone. The transitional cut diamonds are named so because they were manufactured during that era when the round brilliant diamond proportions hadn't been completely perfected, but were improving as lighting shifted from candelight to electric.
